Taste the Balkans: A Gastronomic and Wine Trip to Vojvodina
Vojvodina wineregion | Salaš 137 | Subotica/Palić
Swedish, English
For the curious, the cultured, and the truly thirsty
Welcome to five jam-packed days of hand-picked experiences for wine lovers seeking something beyond the ordinary. This is not a classic vineyard tour — we dive into the world of natural wines, unusual grape varieties and bottles with attitude and soul, all surrounded by magnificent scenery, rich history and insanely good food. This is what you can expect:
The day ends with dinner at the majestic Petra Winery on the lake, where we enjoy organic wines and experience the lake's most beautiful sunset — a magical end to a day filled with new flavors, scents and experiences. Day 4: Subotica Tour and Dinner at Salas Kovac 1920 After breakfast, we dive into the colorful soul of Subotica. We explore the city's famous Art Nouveau architecture with a local guide — from the majestic city hall to the magnificent synagogue and charming pedestrian streets lined with Art Nouveau houses. History, art and everyday life mingle in a unique atmosphere, and there is plenty of time for culture, café visits and perhaps a visit to one of the city's galleries or markets. In the evening, an ultra-local dinner awaits at Salaš Kovač 1920, signed the talented chef Oskar Kovač. Djordje Bikicki's acclaimed natural wines are served — wines with euphoria, personality and deep roots in the region's terroir. Day 5: Sremski Karlovci and 4 Lions Restaurant After breakfast we head to Sremski Karlovci, a historic wine town with charming alleys and rich tradition. We settle down for lunch at classic 4 Lions, a genuine restaurant in an 18th-century house right in the centre, famous for its homemade dishes and local wines. Here you can also try really good, stored rakija — a local specialty that is part of the experience. After that, we round off the trip and head for the airport. Our taste journey through Vojvodina ends here, but the stories, flavors and new friends come home with us Why Choose This Trip? This trip is perfect for wine enthusiasts, foodies and anyone seeking a deeper connection to nature and tradition. The tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the best of the Balkans and especially Vojvodina province, from world-class natural wines to unforgettable culinary creations — all in an intimate and luxurious setting.
- Private tastings at some of Serbia's most exciting natural wine producers — from cult names to new stars in the wine world.
- Farm visits where the winemakers themselves share their philosophy and often open bottles you will never find in a store.
- Real dining experiences with seasonal Balkan cuisine — prepared by local chefs and families. No tourist traps, just genuine flavours.
- Natural & Classic Wines: Explore the natural wine revolution with guided tastings at the premier vineyards, including Oszkár Maurer's winery, known for its world-class wines, Djordje Bikicki's contemporary and vibrant creations and Bojan Baša's innovative orange wines made from rare grape varieties.
And if you're curious about classic wines from the area, you won't be disappointed - we visit two of the most famous producers in their fairy-tale settings. - Exclusive Meals: Enjoy ultra-local food at Salas Kovac 1920, where every ingredient is sourced within a 20-mile radius, for an authentic farm-to-table experience.
Enjoy meals in iconic settings such as Salas 137 and enjoy delicious food at Zvonko Bogdan Winery's restaurant. And why not something a little different in a vibrant urban environment, with bread & schwein & champagne... - Wonderful surroundings: Relax at the Elite Palić Complex, located near the beautiful Lake Palić, and experience traditional charm at Salas 137, a retreat that quite often attracts an occasional world celebrity.
- Cultural Exploration: Immerse yourself in Subotica's rich heritage with guided tour through the city's Art Nouveau architecture, history and beautiful streets.
- Oszkár Maurer: a world-renowned pioneer of natural wines and a guardian of the region's wine traditions. His vineyards range from the sandy lands surrounding Subotica to the volcanic slopes of Fruška Gora. Maurer grows rare, native grape varieties -- such as Kadarka from the world's oldest known planting dating back to 1880 -- and works entirely organically, with minimal impact in the cellar. His wines are pure expressions of terroir and history, and a visit to Maurer is as much an encounter with a passionate storyteller as with a winemaker
- Djordje Bikicki: the voice of the modern rebel in Serbian wine world. Inspired by Maurer's philosophy, he combines innovation and tradition at his vineyard near Subotica and Fruška Gora. Bikicki's natural wines are known for their energy, personality and finesse — and have won awards both in Serbia and internationally. Djordje always talks about wine with euphoria, and each bottle carries a family story, from the Traminer “Makana” to the rosé named after his daughter
- Bojan Baša: the champion of orangevins and a champion of the region's forgotten grape varieties. He creates organic wines with unique character, often from grapes such as Furmint, and his work has attracted attention among wine lovers worldwide. Baša's wines are deeply rooted in the history and craftsmanship of Fruška Gora
- Zvonko Bogdan Winery **: ** an architectural masterpiece on Lake Palić and one of Serbia's most award-winning wineries. Here, modern techniques and reverence for Balkan wine traditions come together. The winery has received several gold medals at Decanter and other international competitions, and is a must for any wine lover who wants to experience the elegance and quality of the region
- Petra Winery: a family project signed the Gubičak family — a place where organic wines meet magnificent nature on Lake Palić. Here you are surrounded by beautiful parks and gardens, inspired by both ancient and Japanese traditions, with showy lavender, thuja and a quiet pavilion on a small island. Everything is created to provide the visitor with peace, harmony and a unique wine experience.
Enjoying Petra wines and the delights of cuisine here, surrounded by greenery and lake views at sunset, is a holistic experience for both taste buds and soul
